At Tintwistle CE Primary School, our computing curriculum aims to instil a sense of enjoyment around using technology, developing pupil’s appreciation of how technological skills can help to solve real world problems, underpinned by a clear understanding of how to be safe online. Online safety is our highest priority so it is revisited termly throughout all year groups and is referenced regularly throughout lessons to children can always feel safe when using computers. Online safety is woven throughout our whole school curriculum.
Our Kapow units of work are carefully linked to our overarching whole school curriculum and children develop key skills in a progressive manner throughout these lessons to help them in becoming more digitally competent. Lessons always begin with a focus on key vocabulary and discussion about the purpose of the lesson – linked to real life problem solving e.g. using a database to record weather patterns.
Through our computing curriculum and wider cross-curricular themes, we help children to build transferable skills – particularly in Maths and Science so they can grow in confidence, becoming independent problem solvers, able to recognise how responsible use of technology can help us to become more digitally literate in our ever changing world.
