Introduction
The Sports Premium Grant (SPG) is government funding to provide additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of all primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
Its aim is to:
-
Develop or add to the Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) activities that the school already offers.
-
Build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
Schools use the funding to prioritise PE and sport premium spending to improve in the following 5 key areas:
-
increasing all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport
-
increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport
-
raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
-
offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
-
increase participation in competitive sport
-
provide swimming lessons to children in Year 5 and Year 6
-
provide structured lunch time sports sessions for the children via OTIS
-
participate in a wide range of out of school sports events and competitions
-
enable staff to learn from subject experts and develop their own competencies in teaching PE

- 89% of children at Tintwistle attended more clubs compared to 81% last year.
- A wider selection of out of school activities are being undertaken by pupils at our school in the local area including golf, rugby, karate and cricket.
- We have had an increase in children enjoying P.E lessons with 83% saying they always enjoy PE and 17% saying sometimes.
- The words that children are using to describe PE are positive again this year with fun once again being the most popular word.
- Many children have represented the school at competitions, multi-skills events and dance afternoons, which is fantastic!
- More involvement and activity at lunchtimes and playtimes.
