Music

At Tintwistle all classes learn about and play music as part of the National Curriculum but some classes are involved in specific projects.

In Class 2 (years 1 and 2) all children are taught to play the recorder.

In Class 3 (years 3 and 4) we involve the children in Whole Class Ensemble Teaching (WCET) and the children have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument through 30 lessons which are led by a Derbyshire music specialist. As we have mixed age classes we sometimes provide this programme in alternate years. The sessions are fully funded by the school and instruments are provided by Derbyshire.

2010/2011 Violin and Clarinet

2012/2013 Flute

2013/2014 A short programme of composing using ipads

2014/2015 Percussion, including Samba

2015/2016 Brass

2017/2018 Brass

2019/2020 Ukulele

At the end of the whole class teaching children who wish to continue to learn their instruments are given the opportunity to have lessons in school, these are subsidised by Derbyshire and offer excellent value for money. Please ask at the office if you would like further information.

Class 4 have just begun to play the ocarina and have promised that they will be ready to accompany our hymns in collective worship soon!

We also have an active and enthusiastic choir who participate in a variety of events through the year.
