Welcome to The Early Years Foundation Unit
Welcome to Class 1
In the Foundation Unit you will find Miss Jones (EYFS Teacher), Miss Crookes (Teaching Assistant), Miss Bagshaw (Teaching Assistant) and Miss Redfearn ( SEN Teaching Assistant). Each one of us welcomes you and looks forward to learning more about your child and helping them to have a successful year. We believe that when children are happy in their environment they will learn and grow as individuals.
A range of fun and interactive activities are provided for your child to experience and enhancements within areas are planned to develop independent learning. If you would like to know more about the Early Years Curriculum please see the Early Years Curriculum page.
Tapestry is our online observation and assessment tool. It allows you to view what your child has been learning about, activities they have been involved in and their independent work. Please could you send photos/comments via Tapestry, so that we can share any achievements and special events that your child has been involved in outside of school. We love to know what they learn at home too!
Reading books are changed on Mondays and Thursdays. Each child in Reception will read with an adult twice a week at school. We ask that you listen to your child read at home as much as possible, reading books will only be changed if your child has read at home. Please make sure reading books and diaries are in school on Mondays and Thursdays.
Please take a look on www.activelearnprimary.co.uk as there are extra books and games for your child to play. You will be sent home an individual username and password for your child, please see me if you have any trouble logging on.
Our P.E day is Tuesday afternoon. Please make sure named kits are in school. An outdoor kit would be useful, jogging bottoms and a jumper are ideal so we can get outside when the weather allows. Unfortunately we don’t have room for rucksacks and backpacks on our pegs, so if you could use small PE bags that would be super! If you do not have these, we have some in school so please ask us.
The whole class will be outside with Miss Corkin and myself every Wednesday afternoon. The children should come to school in their Forest School clothes. They will need something that you don’t mind getting muddy! We have waterproofs to put on over the top and children can change into wellies in the afternoon. Please provide your child with a pair of wellies to keep in school.
Getting ready for school
Derbyshire have produced a document 'Ready for School' in order to help parents prepare their children for starting school, this can be found through the link Www.derbyshire.gov.uk
A healthy snack and drink of water/milk is provided for your child free of charge, however once they reach their 5th birthday milk has to be paid for if it is still required, you can do this via www.coolmilk.com. Toast is available to buy on Fridays for 20p.
If you would like to chat about your child's progress or have any concerns please come in and speak to your child's key person, they will be happy to help. Also I am always available if you require further information, please don't hesitate to come in.
