Welcome to Year 1
In Year One we focus on supporting children to develop the skills they need which are appropriate for their year group. This is achieved through following the national curriculum key skills with a cross-curricular creative approach. We aim to develop existing skills, whilst learning lots of new, exciting things.
Throughout the year we will cover the following topics:
Location, Location, Location.
Wild and Wonderful Creatures.
In the Garden.
To support children with transition from Reception to Year One they are still able to access some continuous provision throughout the day. This aims to develop children’s skills further, whilst meeting the needs of all children.
We are always monitoring progress and children’s needs and are here to support with anything to ensure they are achieving the most at home too. Please see our class page for links to apps and activities that you can support your child with. I would love to see any work your child creates linked to our topics or any special achievements they make. Email any photos with a comment to Alison.Richardson@tintwistle.derbyshire.sch.uk and we can share them together in class.
In Year 1 the children complete a statutory Phonics assessment in June, children are preparing for this all year with their daily phonics sessions and it is made into a fun way of recognising 20 real and non-real words. More details about this test will be sent home nearer the time.
Homework is collected every Thursday along with reading and library books. New books, spellings and other homework will be sent home on a Friday, including a maths challenge which will be set on Active learn. Reading is a crucial aspect of a child’s education and it is vital that they read every day please can you also ensure that your child has their reading book in school every day.
PE is every Monday in Year One. Please make sure your child has a labelled PE kit and bag in school. For the colder months jogging bottoms and a jumper are ideal! We will eventually be taking part in Forest Fridays- this is likely to be in the spring term. More details will be sent out nearer the time.
We will post updates and photos on our class page so keep an eye out! We are looking forward to a fantastic year, filled with exciting things and memories.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to speak to me, I’m always around after school.
Thank you for your continued support.
