Welcome to Rowan Class/ Class 4 for Years 3 and 4!
I am Mrs Francis, the Class 4 teacher and together with Mrs Jones, we have lots of exciting things to do over the coming school year.
Please see our topic webs for this term at the end of this page. Our new topic web will be added soon.
Homework
Homework tasks will be given out and explained, in class, on a Friday. We will go over these together, so everyone knows what to do. Homework will be collected in and marked together on a Thursday. It will be a spelling sheet, with spellings relevant to the literacy or phonics teaching for the following week and there will be a mini spelling test on a Friday morning, so practising at home really helps. There will also be some numeracy homework to help consolidate the work we have done in class. We will look at this together, so children will be familiar with the concepts and how to complete the homework. Ongoing numeracy homework for children in Class 3 is to learn their times tables.
Children can also find educational games on the Class webpage or by following the links below. We will include login detail reminders in their homework folders and reading records once we get going for ‘Active Learn’ and ‘TT Rockstars’.

Reading
We will read with each child in class at least once a week. This will be part of a group guided reading session or on a 1:1 basis, from their reading book, which they will also bring home. We will change these books as and when completed. Please make sure your child’s reading book and their yellow reading record are in school every day, so we can keep a record of when we read together. Any reading you can do with your child at home really helps and can be recorded in the yellow reading record too.
P.E
Please note, our P.E days for the AUTUMN TERM will be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Can you please make sure named kits are in school. An outdoor kit is really useful this term, as we will be heading outside when we can; jogging bottoms and a jumper are ideal. Please also ensure that if your child wears earrings, they are small studs and removed on PE days if possible. Unfortunately, we don’t have room for big rucksacks and bags on our pegs, as they’re in the classroom, so if you could use school book bags and PE bags that would be super! If you don’t have these we have some in school.
Library
We will be having regular fortnightly library lessons, where half the class will visit and enjoy the library at a time and the continued opportunity to change library books at this time. Please note, we cannot change library books, if they are not returned, so make sure old books that have been read are returned please.
Expectations:
As your child is now in Class 4 and Key Stage 2, please encourage them to;
- Arrive to school in plenty of time.
- Be more independent in all things that they do.
- Dress and undress independently, including buttons, zips and shoelaces.
- Wear the correct school uniform.
- Do not wear jewellery and have long hair tied up.
- Take responsibility for their homework and bring it in on time.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to come and talk to me before or after school or ask Sue in the office to book you an appointment.
